About Me

North Coast Framing is an independently run business which aims to provide a high quality range of framing services to the public at affordable, competitive prices. All work carried out is finished to the exacting standards of the “Fine Arts Trade Guild” of picture framing. The owner is John McLelland, who grew up in Tain. John is married to Clare, a local teacher. John has spent the last 20 years making bespoke furniture using only traditional joints. Ten years ago, John decided to channel his passion and attention to detail for making handmade objects into framing, aiming to help customers preserve their precious memories in a deservedly unique way each time.

Memorable Jobs

Pair of boxing gloves signed by Carl Frampton. These were done for free to help raise funds for a charity event called ‘Wee Jacob’ who had died of down syndrome. The gloves raised £500 for the charity. Two signed football tops from former Leeds player Tony Yeboah, the owner had waited patiently for years for the player to return to the UK, he eventually got the jerseys signed when the player returned for an award at the end of 2015. I had the privilege of framing one of almost 900,000 ceramic poppies which was made for a one off display at the tower of London to commemorate 100 years of the start of the first world war. I stretched and framed a needle point type tapestry depicting the last supper which took the owner 4 years of dedicated commitment to complete. My first frame, which was a picture of myself and my wife Clare renewing our marriage vows in a simple copper frame with a white faced black core mount board and finished with a V grove. A memorial frame with a picture of my wife’s first dog ‘Fudge’ and a wee poem, it means the world to her.
